Two truths and a lie — go. I'll start: I once won a dance-off, I can cook exactly four things, I read terms and conditions.
How to Start a Conversation on Tinder
A five-step system — and a generator that does steps two and three for you.
If we got coffee tomorrow and it went perfectly, what would we have talked about?
Tell me the one thing about you that never makes it into your bio.
Make it about them (optional)
🔒 Stays on your phone. Nothing you type here is ever sent to us.
Install this page as an app: it opens instantly, works offline, and remembers your vibe — right there when a new match needs a first line. On iPhone: tap Share, then 'Add to Home Screen'.
The five steps
1. Mine the profile. Read everything — bio, all photos, the backgrounds of the photos. You’re looking for one hook: a dog, a trip, a jersey, a weird mug. 2. Pick your angle. Question, game, or playful observation — whichever matches your actual personality, because you’ll have to keep being that person on the date. 3. Calibrate the energy. Bold bios can take bold openers; sparse profiles want warmth. 4. Send it and stay. The reply usually arrives within hours if it arrives at all — have your follow-up ready, built on whatever she answers. 5. Move with momentum. After two or three real exchanges, suggest the date. Conversations that live on the app for a week mostly die there.
The generator above collapses steps two and three into two taps: pick a vibe, set the energy, tap the interest you found in step one. What it can’t do is step five — that part’s yours.

I'd rather have one great conversation than fifty 'heys'. So here's a real question: what made you smile today?
States a standard, then meets it.
-
I'd love to know the story behind your favorite photo here — not the best one, your favorite.
The distinction shows real curiosity.
The three ways conversations die (and the antidotes)
Death by interview: question, answer, question, answer — no trades. Antidote: after she answers, give something of yours before asking again. Death by agreement: "nice!" "haha same" — nothing to push against. Antidote: have a take; playful disagreement is fuel. Death by delay: three days between replies reads as three percent interest. Antidote: match her pace or beat it slightly, and move to the date before the momentum fades.
FAQ
How do you start a conversation on Tinder?
Find one specific hook in their profile, open with a playful question or game built on it, and calibrate the boldness to what their profile can carry. Then follow their answer rather than a script. The free generator on this page automates the line; the follow-through is the human part.
How long should I wait to message after matching?
Same day is best — within a few hours if you can. Matches cool fast: the "wait three days" rule is dating folklore from a different century, and on Tinder it mostly means someone else got there first.
When should I ask for the date?
After two or three genuine exchanges — enough to establish this is a real person you click with, soon enough that the conversation still has heat. A low-pressure close works best: "one drink, and if it's terrible we never speak of it again."
